John Mason's musical journey began when he started playing drums at age 23, after buying his first drum kit from John Reynolds, he taught himself to play. John joined his first Adelaide band 'Jam Company' with his brother and brother in law in 1984, then in 1986 he joined 'Tall Hairy Cats' (THC), he filled in with the Barflys whenever they needed him, and was lucky enough to be part of a live VHS recording, done at the Front Page, which was run by Dino Jag at the time. He went on to play with 'Fineline' in 1989, followed by 'Dark Water' in 1992, and he then took a 20 year break from playing. John has recently returned to drumming and has taken up having drum lessons with Mark Meyer. Since his return to drumming he has played with 'Full Tilt Janis', 'Woodstock Revolution', and 'Fever'. John currently plays with Bad Press who are a 4 piece, alternative Rock/Blues band. Bad Press are performing during the Port Noarlunga Blues Festival, at the Keg and Barrel Steak House Bar & Grill, with special guest Taylor Brown at 3PM, Saturday the 27th of November.

John has recently become an endorsed artist for Zilli Cymbals, who are a Turkish and Australian owned boutique cymbal company. Zilli Cymbals can be purchased through Aydin's Zilli Cymbal shop which is located in Christies Beach, South Australia.

Music: "Band It About" theme song was written and recorded by Catherine Lambert and Michael Bryant for the BAND IT ABOUT - Podcast Series. Outro: Live recording of Bad Press performing their version of the Robin Trower song 'Bridge of Sighs.'

*Season 2 of the BAND IT ABOUT - Podcast Series 'The Engine Room' turns 1 on November 21st! There are still so many talented Adelaide drummers/percussionists to be interviewed, that I have decided to continue along with this theme until I have exhausted all of the possible interviews with the drumming community, with those who would like to be involved in this series. If you would like to do an interview, or know of someone who would please let me know. I had been hoping to collate all of the stories to then write a book about the history of the Adelaide, South Australia drumming community, but without the financial support that releasing an independent book will require this may not become a reality. If you know of any grants or funding available for this to become a reality please email me: banditabout7@gmail.com with your suggestions, or leave a voice message via the link below. If you would like to help support this local independent podcast, please use the PayPal Link which can be located in the BAND IT ABOUT Linktree: https://linktr.ee/banditaboutpodcastseries
