The amount of guidance, advice and insight that Jamie Storr shares in this episode is incredible. Starting out in minor hockey, Jamie goes into detail what it was like as a young hockey player turned goalie and what made him successful. Jamie shares about his international experience at a young age representing Team Ontario at the age of 15 as well as playing in the OHL 3 years before he was eligible to be drafted into the NHL. Jamie touches on his experience playing with guys like Joe Sakic, Rob Blake, Brendan Shanahan, Paul Kariya, Bill Ranford and many more! After being drafted the Los Angeles Kings 7th over in the NHL draft, Jamie had the opportunity to live with Wayne Gretzky for a month and shares how amazing the experience was and how it helped his mindset. Jamie also shares an awesome story about Gretzky having to pay for the planes during the financial crisis so that his team was able to fly.

Looking at his career as a goalie, he talks about how hard he fought every single day for his job and the big differences between Junior hockey and the National Hockey League which includes consistency. Jamie shares incredible mental advice for all young players and how important it is to keep your mental toolbox active and constantly evolving. Jamie’s journey and story has incredible insight on so many different subjects including being a free agent in the NHL, deciding where to play in the NHL, getting sent down to the minors and how to deal with pressure. A key takeaway from Jamie to young goalies is the ability to sell yourself and be your own biggest advocate.
