Hello, friends. In this episode, I answer two questions related to becoming sexually aroused post-therapy sessions which initiate a strong desire to masturbate, and making the transition to a new therapist and whether there is anything you can do to help jump-start the therapeutic relationship.

Question 1:
Hi Duff, My question is perhaps an odd one, I would like to know is it normal to become aroused and want to masturbate after being vulnerable in a therapy session. I opened up to my therapist in our last session about having recently self-harmed. Her response was so kind and caring, and I felt a sense of having opened up both our therapeutic relationship & something in myself. Ever since I have had this feeling of wanting to go deeper in my own understanding of what is happening inside me around the self-harming & mental talk, but weirdly accompanied by a much more frequent desire to masturbate especially when thinking about that session. I’m not attracted to my therapist and am not objectifying her when doing this, but it still feels kind of gross. I’m in my late twenties & haven’t felt this impulsive need to masturbate randomly in the daytime since I was a teenager. Is this normal?
Question 2:
Hello Duff! First of all I just want to say I really appreciate your podcast, my friend recommended it to me when I was in between therapists a while ago and it’s been a great resource alongside my therapy ever since. I am just wrapping up with my current therapist (a session limit I knew about when I started) and on the lookout for another one, hopefully one who I can work with for a longer period of time. Something I am now financially capable of! (Yay!) I really struggle with opening up for far too many sessions of getting to know a therapist. It took me until the last weeks with both my previous and current therapist to actually address anything. This is obviously a waste of time (for both therapist and myself) and money (for me). Do you have any tips on finding your groove with a new therapist? Or, is there anything that’s good for a therapist to know in advance? I’m considering making an important things to know document so my next therapist and I can get to work more efficiently. Thank you in advance whether or not you are able to read on the podcast.
