On today’s podcast we have Sally Gare. Sally is a beautiful lady in her 80s who was a teacher in Outback Australia in the 1950s and is currently involved in the Alternative to Violence Project. She is the co-author of the book, ‘Outback Australia’; an inspiring story about her adventures in remote Australia.
What I love about this conversation is the intersection between Sally’s firsthand experience of working with Indigenous communities in the 1950s and her perspective on the people within these communities. Sally has a profound belief that though we may be different from culture to culture, we are indeed one, and it is more about integration than assimilation between cultures. The most important lesson Sally learnt was to respect another’s culture and through her work with the Alternative Violence Project she also spans this out to people's individual journeys and experiences; that we should take time to know where one comes from to better understand where one is going.
