A letter co-signed by Elon Musk and thousands of others demanding a pause in artificial intelligence research has created a firestorm - calling for a six-month hiatus on the development of systems. The focus is on the deployment of large language models. These models, which can predict the next word in a sequence given the preceding words, are the backbone of many conversational AI systems. However, the experts argue that these models are more powerful than ever before, and they simply don't understand how they work.
