Week 3 of the XFL had one undefeated team the Orlando Rage (2-0) going up against the win less NY/NJ Hitmen led by their disliked quarterback Charlie Puleri. The Hitmen held a team only meeting that week where much of the anger was directed towards Puleri. The embattled quarterback who was being booed by the NY/NJ fans was pulled after the first half for backup Wally Richardson. Hitmen Head Coach Rusty Tillman who by now was being ridiculed himself with Jesse Ventura's cruel commentaries, made the decision to see if Wally could provide a spark to the offense which he did. Although the Hitmen led through most of the second half, it was Jeff Brohm who gave the Rage two scores to seal the victory.
