In this episode, we delve into the concept of being "qualified" in the workplace, examining who gets labeled as such, who doesn't, and the underlying reasons. We explore "competency checking"—the practice of scrutinizing individuals' abilities—and how it disproportionately affects underrepresented groups, often going unnoticed or unchallenged. Our discussion aims to redefine qualifications in a fair, equitable, and actionable manner. Our guest, Shari Dunn , is an accomplished journalist, former attorney, news anchor, CEO, university professor, and sought-after speaker. She has been recognized as Executive of the Year and a Woman of Influence, with her work appearing in Fortune Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, Ad Age, and more. Her new book, Qualified: How Competency Checking and Race Collide at Work , unpacks what it truly means to be deserving and capable—and why systemic barriers, not personal deficits, are often the real problem. Her insights challenge the narratives that hold so many of us back and offer practical solutions for building a more equitable future. Together, we can build workplaces and communities that don’t just reflect the world we live in, but the one we want to create. A world where being qualified is about recognizing the talent and potential that’s been overlooked for far too long. It’s not just about getting a seat at the table—it’s about building an entirely new table, one designed with space for all of us. Welcome to another exhilarating episode of The Paramotor Podcast! Today, we sit down with Alexis Quintana—president of the United States Powered Paragliding Association (USPPA), accomplished paragliding pilot, and team pilot for the Airythmia paramotor flight demonstration team. In this conversation, we dive deep into one burning question: Why should someone join the USPPA? While skydivers and hang gliding/paragliding pilots must maintain memberships to access coveted flying locations and ensure safety standards, powered paragliders enjoy the freedom to launch from almost anywhere. So, what then is the role of the USPPA? Alexis unpacks how the USPPA is shaping the future of paramotoring by: Setting Community Standards: Learn her insights on creating a unified safety protocol and fostering respect at fly-ins—both sanctioned and unsanctioned. Empowering New Pilots: Hear valuable advice for a father guiding his 13-year-old daughter into paramotoring, along with a heartfelt woman-to-woman perspective for young women entering the sport. Tackling Challenges: Explore the pressing issues facing the powered paragliding community and discover how the USPPA is actively working to address them. Whether you're an active pilot, an aviation enthusiast, or someone curious about diving into powered paragliding, this episode is packed with actionable advice, inspiring stories, and a fresh look at the importance of community in aviation. Electric paramotors are unquestionably bad ass! I consider myself very fortunate to have recorded this episode with Paul Whitehead, the owner and founder of OpenPPG. The number one electric Paramotor industry is the SP140. Truth be told, I've spent a lot of time considering getting one of them, but I figured I would reach out to Paul to get a deep dive on the pros and cons of his creation. One of the great things about Paul is that he doesn't pretend as though his ePPG is perfect. That said, he's proud to discuss the incredible things that electric motors in general have to offer their owners. Special thank you to everyone who is a supporter of the show! There are several necessary expenses that I must pay for every month to keep this show on the air. Thank you to my friend Joe (and his awesome family) for being a long time supporter of the show. At this time, you're the top supporter for The Paramotor Podcast. Other supporter of the show are: Walter Brisken — Thank you for your for being a Patron for 6 months! Sandor — Thank you for visiting me in the hospital, brother. Kyle O'Glee — I am looking forward to watching more of your "good content". Joseph Scheve — Thank you!!! You have been helping me since July of 2019!!! John Staples — Hello buddy! Thank you for being a supporter since the beginning. Robert Michaels — I was sad to watch the final episode of Paragliding Talk. I look forward to your return my friend. Also, thank you for the support throughout my recovery. Joe Garret Dean — You've been with me since the beginning. Thank you, my friend.…

Super Trevor hangs out with Clint and Anthony to share a juicy story on coming up in the sport with Super Dell Schanze! He says, "you were either with him or against him," and that now he is a sworn enemy. Drama aside, Trevor has grown into a very talented pilot who is building a school of his own that takes the good and avoids the bad attributes that he learned from Super Training. IN OTHER NEWS: Thank you for your patience in getting this episode out to all of you. Our dearly loved friend, Lee Boone, passed away in a tragic flying accident at the start of this month. Yesterday, we laid him to rest. There never was or will be a better role model to our local flying community. Not just in paramotoring; He was a beautiful sole with an intense devotion to God. Waz, a higher-up in the indoor skydiving world, tells me that iFly will risk their staffs life and limbs to keep you happy on your birthday. The list of injuries he's sustained over 2 decades of skydiving and paramotoring is extensive, and his recollection of the events will having you laughing out loud. Anthony and Waz discuss the similarities between skydiving and paramotoring. Here are the links to the references made in this episode: WazzyCircus Radio episode with George Nisson, the wartime helicopter pilot. WazzyCircus Radio episode with Mack Belcher, parachute on fire and landing in the ocean. If you love the show, help it grow! Between monthly subscriptions, podcast equipment, and hours arranging, recording, and editing, It’s very costly to keep the show on the air. Several businesses within the paramotor community have offered to pay my expenses for the show in exchange for promoting their product or services, but that doesn’t sit right with me when a large portion of the listeners have never flown before. Products and services should be promoted based on their merit because that’s what’s in the best interest of our listeners. Please CLICK HERE to become a Patron of The Paramotor Podcast!…
