Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849) escribió: "Los que sueñan de día llegan a conocer muchas cosas que escapan a los que sólo sueñan durante la noche". Dos de los tres relatos, en esta adaptación, muestran diversas formas de venganza: “El gato negro” advierte que “quien maúlla al último, maúlla mejor”, mientras que “El barril de amontillado” constituye una clara revelación de que la venganza se paladea mejor cuando se ha añejado.
