Marleah and James talk about The Crystal Method (with Lauren Flax and Ryan McKnight) show they saw on 10/11/19 at Warsaw…with special guest, Hillary! Marleah LOVES big beat, which in her mind is just the polar opposite of dance punk: instead of dance infused rock music, it’s rock infused dance music (this is why they’re Mar’s two favorite genres, because they don’t make her choose). James explains just how big beat qualifies as “upper” music, and which drugs might hypothetically pair well with that (he also gets “offended”, which he’ll take to our Twitter). Hillary expounds upon the analogy of house vs. big beat, with body surfing vs. combatting post-hurricane ocean currents (just listen. It’ll make sense). All agree that this idea that all of EDM music is basic and boring is complete horseshit, because if you really give a listen (to some subgenres anyway, such as, ahem, BIG BEAT), you can find a fair amount of layering and complexities (Marleah can give plenty of examples, just ask).
