Verses Used:
- Mark 10:17-31
Takeaways:
- The goal of gospel fluency is that we would give everyone around us an opportunity to experience Jesus through us.
- Jesus was the most gospel fluent person to ever live. Good news flowed from him.
Right to the Heart
- Jesus is in essence saying, your money has your heart. Will you give me your heart? (money, future, goals, and dreams).
- Our actions/decisions/lives are an overflow of our hearts and display what we love most.
- Jesus is not interested in sharing your heart with others. He is exclusive.
- Sometimes it feels painful to let Jesus expose our hearts.
- The reason we sometimes resist Jesus is because we buy into lies.
Lies We Believe
- God isn’t against people having things, he is against things having his people.
- Jesus did talk about the difficulty of those who are wealthy to find the kingdom.
- Our hearts run after other things because we believe it will make us happy. This is what happens to our hearts when we believe lies.
The Gospel of Grace
- What is impossible for man – our salvation, is possible for God.
- Gaining eternal life on our own is impossible, but through Jesus it is possible. Surrender to Jesus is the pathway to life, not keeping the law.
Discussion Questions:
- What do you think the young man in the story was hoping to hear from Jesus? What did he get?
- What lies have you believed would make you happy in this life?
