The big news when I first moved to America two years earlier was the bombing in Oklahoma City. As 1997 begins, the court case against Timothy McVeigh is getting underway. Bill Clinton is starting his second term as president and, more personally, I started dating the girl who would become my wife. For some reason, she doesn't appreciate that I associate the occasion with the first episode of South Park; a group of us were watching and giggling childishly downstairs while she got ready for us all to go out. I was soaking up American music and culture, attending the Lollapalooza and Warped tours and taking in other concerts and sporting events all over the country. Bands I saw included The Prodigy, Orbital, James, Eels and The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. As I become more “social integrated”, it certainly gives the impression that America was starting to feel more like home.
