On this episode Simon K speaks to dusty Rhodes,DJ and podcaster.

Dusty Rhodes was one of a generation of Irish DJs who got their start in pirate radio during the 1980s. Dusty started his radio life on the pirates when he was 13 – with his first big job being on Sunshine 101.

As mid-morning DJ on Sunshine 101, he was in competition with a fledgling Gerry Ryan Show.

When the pirates were shut down, he got his big break as the first DJ signed up by the commercial radio station Atlantic 252 in 1989. As well as a large Irish audience, the station had an audience of almost five million in the UK at its peak.

After five years with Atlantic 252 he moved to 2FM where he was best known for presenting the Hotline programme. While he was presenting the show, the time-slot grew in popularity and was the first early-evening show to break the 100,000 listener mark.

While his on-air popularity soared in this period, he was also involved in off-air projects. As well as working on his production skills, he got involved in the internet early on, helping to launch 2FM's first website in the early 1990s.

He left the cosy confines of Montrose in 2002 to found Digital Audio Productions, the first multi-service independent radio production house.

In 2020 Dusty founded the Dustpod.ie

They help companies build brand authority through custom broadcast quality podcasts.

Dusty Rhodes is an audio expert and podcast authority.
