Gisel Florez : An artist that explores the space between digital & analog

On this third episode of our second season we have Gisel Florez. Gisel has her own photo studio based in NYC and dedicates her time to maintaining a creative edge while shooting still & motion projects. First-generation Cuban. Her focus on personal work ranges in subjects from scientific developments, human interactions, to the wonder of light that fills her existence.
Gisel holds a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in Illustration and has experience in the early days of VR immersion & interface within medical research visualization of blood-flow & flight dynamics at Brown University. Graduating with an independent thesis in large format photography with legendary professor Henry Horenstein, she moved to NYC and pursued a living shooting what she loves. Starting in 2005 she worked with one of the first-ever high-end digital capture companies, Industrial Color. Working next to the most successful commercial photographers of the time, she gained invaluable skills in communication and technical expertise. After helping establish new IC offices in Miami and LA, she moved on to run, establish & equip Barneys New York’s first in-house digital photo studio. Simultaneously building her own extreme portfolio of personal works she began to fly solo in 2006. This photograph taken right after leaving the position at Barneys, sparked her obsession searching for dynamism within the photographic technique.
