Last week, Axel and special guest Leisa had a candid conversation about how 2019 would be remembered as a pivotal moment for women's soccer around the world. Popularity of women's soccer is really taking off and established clubs in Europe have taken notice of that, and there is a feeling they are taking it a lot more seriously given the financial incentives of a growing, untapped market. As women's soccer vies to become more mainstream (the good), it is important to also discuss the bad, the ugly and how much progress still needs to be made.

Women and young girls around the world have historically faced - and continue to face - economic and societal barriers that exclude them from freely and fully playing the beautiful game. In this episode, we discuss the systemic sexism - with stories from South America - the financial inequalities between men's and women's soccer and the issue of equal pay in the context of bonuses with national teams. Lastly, we touch on the discrimination of women within men's football in the areas of coaching, refereeing and positions of power.
