EP 44: Interviews with Terry A. Peters + Karrie Hamons
Manage episode 454739404 series 3554275
“I feel seen,” says Karrie Hamons, mom of college-aged twins from Tyler, Texas who loves traveling, entertaining and crafting, “like I found a little place in the social media/internet world where I belong.” Karrie is a longtime member of the Grid + Glam membership and one of two guests interviewed in this episode of the Get Organized for Good podcast. Karrie talks about the joy of finding a like-minded community where being organized is celebrated and where the support is always available when you need it, no matter what stage of the process you’re in.
Also joining Corinne in a respective interview is Terry A. Peters, a mom of two young kids, eight and five, from Connecticut. A daughter of immigrant parents Terry, like many of us, was raised with a scarcity mentality and no foundations for how to live an organized life. She explains why she was drawn to Corinne’s program over so many others, and why organizing is not about some Pinterest fantasy, but about bringing peace and joy to real, everyday life.
Both women explain what it’s like to see their families—particularly their kids—adopt Corinne’s frameworks of organization at different ages and phases of life. Join to hear about their stories and about how you can join the membership to start your own organizing journey today.
Quotes
- “Many people think about organization in the most Pinterest, Instagram-worthy, picture perfect…all the things you might see on television, but the reality is the majority of our society and our population live everyday lives. We’ve got families and pets and things are a mess a part of the time and that’s okay, too.” (5:35 | Terry A. Peters)
- “It’s not just about the stuff…the aesthetics, but it’s really trying to figure out…what are those pieces that were really helpful and continue to be helpful…are no longer helpful to us? We get to decide and undo the things that are just no longer helpful for us and honor…where our parents came from …we get to create a different upbringing for our children.” (6:48 | Corinne Morahan)
- “Drop the preconceived notions. Organizing is for everyone. It benefits everyone. I would argue that the benefits of having an orderly space, a tidy space, an organized space that’s calming brings way more benefit to the general society than it does to celebrities who have multimillion dollar homes.” (16:08 | Terry A. Peters)
- “Sometimes I felt like I got backhanded compliments from [family and friends] for pursuing this order and structure in my life. So, sometimes I almost felt like it was a character flaw…When I found your page and started following along, I thought, ‘Oh, my gosh. I feel seen. I feel like this is celebrated. This is encouraged.’ …So, I found a little place in the social media/internet world where I felt like I belonged.” (26:27 | Karrie Hamons)
- “One of the beautiful things about the membership is you’ve got the accountability, you’ve got the timeline…sometimes you’re not mentally or emotionally ready to deal with some stuff…I have the framework, I have the support still through the membership when I am ready to tackle that spot. The resources are always there and the support of the community is always there for you when you’re ready.” (36:50 | Karrie Hamons)
