Have you ever been stuck trying to solve a problem? I have a solution that will probably help out!

Thank you for calling GIH where we instigate growth one call at a time where we utilize antiquated technology to deliver 3-minute leadership lessons every week day! This is message #192 and I am Aaron Havens.

Do you need help solving a problem? It starts with our thinking. Let me give you two stories that will help set up our problem solving solution today.

STORY #1: My friend is getting her masters degree in sociology. She often uses a phrase that comes from the research and findings. “It depends”. Isn’t that true! “It depends”. So many things are out of our control. So many things can be one off events, or in research, even the temperature in a room while taking a survey can altar the results. “It depends”.

STORY #2: Our company hires a handful of people to do work about 3 hours from where we are based. It’s hard and long work. They are great people! English in not their first language so sometimes their words causes me to pause.

A phrase they use often is a good way to approach life. I’ll ask something like “hey buddy can you work Saturday at 8?” And without fail I’ll get a response close to “Yes I can work… God willing”. Yeah, even our “yes” and “no” responses depend on outcomes that can be beyond our control.

Here is the problem solving solution. And it might bug you all day. Commit to this though… DON’T JUST google the answer. Talk about it with however many people you need. Text me is you would like a hint 970.331.2676. Leave me a message when you have the answer.

Holding our thoughts loosely, looking at a problem a different way is KEY. Get creative. Don’t get stuck in bias. Look at the problem creatively and play with it.

So. Here is what I want you to solve: A farmer needs to cross a river with a wolf, a goat, and a cabbage. However, his boat is only big enough to take himself and one of the three items at a time. If he leaves the wolf and the goat alone, the wolf will eat the goat. If he leaves the goat and the cabbage alone, the goat will eat the cabbage. The farmer needs to get all three items across the river without anything being eaten. Puzzle Question: How can the farmer get himself, the wolf, the goat, and the cabbage safely across the river?

Thanks for calling in today. Tune in tomorrow for a fresh new topic. At the sound of the beep, what is the solution to the puzzle? Again, text 9703312676 if you’d like a hint. And don’t cheat. This will help you solve future problems in life!
