Ury Saul Cohn received his undergraduate degree in Sociology from San Francisco State University and was awarded a Ph.D from Kansas State University for his dissertation, "Illegal Aliens Out! Making Sociological Sense of the New Restrictionist Frame". He is also a United States Marine and member of the American GI Forum, a veteran's organization that is concerned with protecting civil rights for everybody.
