With 150 chapters written by at least seven authors over a span of 1,000 years, we'll explore how these ancient songs of praise reveal the overarching message of worship and thanksgiving to God. • The Psalms are not just a random collection but are intentionally arranged into five "books" or sections, each with a specific theme:
  • Book 1 (Psalms 3-41): Covenant faithfulness, with Psalms 1 and 2 serving as an introduction
  • Book 2 (Psalms 42-72): The hope that Israel has in their Messiah and the Messianic kingdom
  • Book 3 (Psalms 73-89): Calling on God to fulfill His covenant promises, particularly in light of the tragedy of Israel's exile

  • Book 5 (Psalms 107-150): Praise, affirming that God hears the cries of His people and will send the Messiah to bring about His kingdom
• The writing of the Psalms spans approximately 1,000 years, from the time of Moses to the post-Babylonian exile period
• Some Psalms can be linked to specific events in King David's life, as recorded in the book of 1 Samuel
