Thinking about joining the growing field of social entrepreneurs. This episode highlights social entrepreneur and activist Asha Tarry who has launched The Collective Advocates while working in the mental health field. We’ll be talking about activism as a business and how to cultivate a new generation of advocates. Asha also shares how to tackle self-defeating, limiting attitudes in transitioning from working for others to working for yourself. Our Guest: Asha Tarry, a licensed mental health professional, advocate and activist formed The Collective Advocates, a grassroots association that includes young women and men who are advocates in social causes in New York and abroad. Asha has worked in New York City and in Washington, D.C. giving back to communities of color. Asha is a supporter of anti-human trafficking, studying this issue for almost two years, she has met many survivors and activists who fight against trafficking every day. Asha uses social media, community events and on the ground networking to bring awareness to social causes, especially in mental health and wellness. Asha has also been a Production Assistant for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week and D.C. Fashion Week as well as a Show Runner for Afrique Couture in New York and a reporter for New York’s Couture Fashion Week, interviewing Michelle Obama’s hair stylist, Johnny Wright. She was also a host for three years for independent film company, Act Now Foundation, in Brooklyn, New York.
