Episode 3 of Where Passion Meets Education (WPME) host Sandeep Dutt in conversation with Amardeep Singh.

24th July 2024

“Today’s episode is a special release in honour of my Guru, my mother, who celebrates 84 years of spreading #JoyOfLearning.” - Sandeep DuttSnehlata at EBD Since 1971

"I understand that "Brewing Knowledge" means a lot to you. It's not just a blog about books and authors; it's a platform that inspires and encourages people to keep learning and growing. I truly believe that knowledge should be shared generously, and I appreciate your efforts in making that happen. Let's cherish #BrewingKnowledge and share the wealth with others." Snehlata at The English Book Depot, India's premier bookstore since 1923.

Amardeep Singh co-founded Lost Heritage Productions and the Oneness In Diversity Research Foundation. ‘Lost Heritage Productions’ is a Singapore-based visual media production house led by a Singapore-based couple, Amardeep Singh and Vininder Kaur. It is focused on research and documentation of forgotten legacies.

Born in Gorakhpur, Amardeep Singh attended The Doon School. He studied Electronics Engineering at the Manipal Institute of Technology and received a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Chicago, USA. He now lives in Singapore. Having worked in the Financial Services sector for 25 years, he has led the Asia Pacific Region at American Express for Revenue Management of the Credit Card business.

Since 2014, he has dedicated himself to visual ethnographic research. He has authored two books, ‘Lost Heritage, The Sikh Legacy in Pakistan’ and ‘The Quest Continues: Lost Heritage, The Sikh Legacy in Pakistan’. He has also made a few documentary films on the remnants of the Sikh legacy remnants in Pakistan.

Amardeep has led a cross-border team to create a 24-episode docuseries, “Allegory, A Tapestry of Guru Nanak’s Travels, "available on www.TheGuruNanak.com.

Passion, purpose, and what is work?Work, eat, sleep, recharge, and get to work again! The world is all about consumption; for Amardeep, Passion must work like the sea waves—ebb and tide. He shares what Passion means for him, his life, and his work, leaving a poignant message for young people. Amardeep is a harbinger of ‘Oneness’ and shares Guru Nanak’s life and work. He moved from being a banker to an avid traveller, tracing the footsteps of Guru Nanak.

We must go beyond the life of building bank balances to find fulfilment in life, what Passion means to us, and any activity that resonates within oneself and acts as a catalyst for developing one’s mind to achieve what your heart wishes. We pursue things close to us, do not mindlessly follow emotions, take activities, and yes, you are uncontrollable beyond reasoning. Overcome barriers, and when you pursue a passion, you will unfurl your life's purpose.

Where do education and Passion intervene?PassionBeyond formal education, you must have a lifelong pursuit. Passion pushes you into a mode of self-learning without any expectations. Do not follow Passion; developing passions is essential; you must become the Passion. Amardeep picks up photography, musicology, and languages, and he is sure that you reach a pinnacle and stop; moving on and layering passions is the key to always staying in every learning mode; this is the true purpose of education: being a lifelong learner. Energy shuts down doors, and behold, grace will come to you, and you will work for your holistic development. A Ven Diagram of Education and Passion will create a new ‘You’ at the intersection.

Looking back at his life at school He may be an average student; his report cards may even show below-average grades. Excellence will come only when you turn your entire attention to it. Worldly aspects keep going, picking up the layers and growing up to a humble and successful life. Young people must understand that life is long and not get perturbed by their current state or time; they must keep collecting the moments and build a chain of thought and action to make their lives.

Please tune in for the joy and successes and reflect on life as more than being educated at school. Sandeep uses the metaphor of building a chain from the moments of life to explain how Passion fuels life and how we move up to find our spiritual selves.

Oneness In Diversity Research Foundation supports My Good School; Amardeep is our visiting Professor! He mentors young people at our school and attends school with us once a month. We screen an episode of his docu-series and reflect on the teachings of Guru Nanak as an integral part of our core curriculum at My Good School.
