In today's episode, we'll talk about how the word "Allora" is used in Italian. “Allora”, like the other words I explained in previous podcasts, is often used in everyday conversations. For this reason, I have decided to address this topic with you! In this episode, I'll teach you the 5 main meanings of this word. 1. "Allora" is often used in Italian just to introduce a sentence. It can be translated with "so" or "Right then" in English.
Example:
- Allora, adesso cominciamo la lezione (So, let's start the lesson)
- Allora, domani andiamo tutti a Firenze per visitare la città. (So, tomorrow we’re all going to Florence to visit the city)
2. It can be used to introduce the consequence of something.
Example:
- Fuori fa freddo, ALLORA prendo una giacca (It's cold outside, so I'll get a jacket)
3. The question "Allora?" is used to ask for more information about something.
Example:
- Allora? Come è andato il colloquio? (So? How did the interview go?)
4. "Allora" can also mean "Back then/At that time", referring to the past.
Example:
- Sono andato a San Francisco nel 1995. Allora viaggiavo tanto (I went to San Francisco in 1995. I used to travel a lot back then)
5. "Allora!!" is used to say "stop it!". I really don't like this expression, it sounds quite rude.
Example:
- If someone is annoying you for some reason, you can say: "Allora!!"
