Trea Turner hit two home runs while Michael Mercado tossed 5 inning of 1 run baseball as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Chicago Cubs, 6-4 Tuesday night!

Mercado was making his first Big League start and looked more than ready for the moment. He was done after throwing 78 pitches, 51 for strikes over his 5 innings. He also allowed just 2 hits, issued 2 walks and struck out 4.

Garrett Stubbs got the Phillies on the board in the 2nd inning with a 2-run double. Trea Turner followed in the 3rd with a 422ft solo homer, his 4th of the season. Turner hit another homer in the 5th with a 439ft 2-run homer to left center field for his 5th homer on the year. Turner added an RBI single in the 7th.

The only big blemish on the Phillies’ evening came when Jose Ruiz took the ball to pitch the 9th and surrendered 2 hits, then a 3-run homer to Seiya Suzuki! The Phillies bullpen had sat down the last 16 cubs in a row, prior to Ruiz. Jeff Hoffman come on in relief and picked up his 7th save.
