Menopause at the end of 30 - that is hard for many women to imagine. After all, more and more women are still planning to have a child in their mid or late 30s. For some it is a shock when they receive the diagnosis: premature ovarian insufficiency or climacterium praecox. The technical terms stand for an early menopause. Here you can find out which symptoms indicate the end of the fertile phase of life, which causes lie behind them and which treatment options are available.

Premature menopause – typical symptoms

As a rule, this happens on average by the age of 50. In some cases - about one percent of women - the process begins at around the age of 35 or 40. Premature ovarian failure is even rarer in those under 35 (0.3 percent). The symptoms do not differ from the typical menopause. However, they are often not recognized and attributed to stress, for example. If you see the following signs, you should be alert and consult a specialist to be on the safe side:

Your cycle is irregular or you don't have a period at all

Hot flashes and sweats, often at night

Loss of libido, i.e. reduced desire for sex

mood swings

Sluggishness, exhaustion up to feelings of depression

concentration problems

sleep disorders

The lack of female sex hormones can have far-reaching physical and psychological consequences. Among other things, the hormone estrogen strengthens the bones, increases blood circulation in the tissue and protects the blood vessels from atherosclerosis and its consequences such as heart attacks and strokes. If the estrogen content in the blood is reduced, there is a risk of osteoarthritis. The protective layer of cartilage in the joint becomes thinner, which leads to pain and restricted movement. Atherosclerosis can also threaten. In vascular disease, the arteries narrow and harden due to abnormal deposits and narrow.
