Let's Talk Crap

In this episode, we roll up our sleeves and dig into the fascinating (and often overlooked) world of septic systems with expert Jen Chapin. Whether you’re a real estate investor, a homeowner, or just someone intrigued by what keeps the modern world flowing, this conversation is packed with insight, humor, and practical advice.

Jen begins by shedding light on perc tests—what they are, why they’re crucial when evaluating a property, and how they can impact both functionality and value. From there, we explore the mysteries of drain fields, breaking down how they work and the importance of their proper placement to ensure long-term performance.

Ever wondered if septic-specific toilet paper is worth the hype? Jen tackles this surprisingly common question and explains how the right choices can make a big difference in the lifespan of your system. She also shares expert guidance on where to place your septic system for optimal efficiency and maintenance accessibility.

For anyone considering a home with a septic system, Jen offers must-ask questions that could save you from future headaches, covering what to look for during inspections and potential warning signs. Wrapping up the discussion, she outlines key maintenance practices to keep your system running smoothly, avoid costly repairs, and extend its lifespan.

This episode is a must-listen for anyone seeking clarity on septic systems. By the end, you’ll feel confident managing one of the most critical (and often underappreciated) parts of any property.

Jen Chapin leaves us with a memorable closing thought: "A Royal Flush is Better Than a Full House."

Tune in now for an enlightening and entertaining deep dive into the world of septic systems!

In Jen's words...

With over 18 years in business, I am the co-owner of a thriving septic company founded with my husband, a venture we began out of necessity that has since flourished. Alongside this, I run a dynamic real estate investment company, encompassing private money lending, flipping, glamping, new builds, and the future goal of creating rental income streams.

My upbringing deeply influenced my path; my father, a botanist with the Bureau of Land Management, instilled in me a respect for old-growth forests and the importance of land stewardship. This foundation shapes my approach to business and investing—finding ways to complement natural resources while fostering sustainable growth.

Most importantly, I'm a full-time Nana to two spirited grandchildren, ages 4 and 6, who fill my life with joy and purpose. Every investment I make and business decision I undertake is inspired by a vision for their future and the values passed down through generations.
