Episode 64: Realistic vs. Unrealistic Expectations in Marriage with Tyler & Dena Lindsey

We are back this week talking about marriage with a couple of friends from our life group at church, Tyler and Dena Lindsey! Tyler is the worship pastor at our church and Dena also helps lead worship. They've been married for a little over two years.

My wife Emily is back on the show with me as well, and one of the cool aspects of this conversation is that Tyler and Emily had interesting perspectives on helping couples as they prepare for marriage or navigate their marriage. Tyler does premarital counseling for couples and Emily and a license therapist who also works with couples. Their clientele is usually a little different, as is their perspective, and I really enjoyed hearing the range of ideas they had.

Tyler, who was on Episode 11 with some other friends from church, mentioned some questions he always asks the couples he counsels, and it's a list of questions he and Dena asked each other as well. They all center around expectations over things like household chores, budget, how time should be spent, sex, and how often to go on dates. We talked about what realistic expectations look like vs. unrealistic expectations.
