Cancel Culture, Being a Sell-out and Fear of Full Expression
Manage episode 435187892 series 3440865
In this episode of Embodied Millions Podcast, I dive deep into my ongoing journey of self-discovery and authenticity. As someone who embraces the unfiltered nature of this podcast, I share personal experiences that shaped my understanding of inner stillness and self-acceptance. Recently, my journey included meditation teacher training with David G, who reignited my passion for both meditation and the core teachings of yoga that have guided me throughout my life.
I openly discuss the challenges I face in seeking stillness and silence, especially as someone with a natural inclination toward action and momentum. This struggle resonates with many, particularly women who have encountered trauma or life-altering experiences that compel them toward healing and service.
I reveal a significant fear I harbor around the idea of being a “sellout”—a notion that resonates with anyone in a position of influence or service.
Throughout my journey, I have come to realize that wearing a mask of conformity—posited as acceptable by societal standards—can lead to profound internal discord. I share a personal anecdote from my youth involving a school play that ignited my desire to perform, only to be stifled by apprehension and the fear of being seen. This tension between ambition and self-doubt has reverberated throughout my life, shaping both my career and interpersonal relationships.
I challenge you to contemplate where you, too, might be filtering your own expressions or conforming to societal norms that stifle your truth. The fear of being criticized or “canceled” can lead to diminished self-expression, which in turn limits one's impact on the world. By encouraging honesty and introspection, there's power in embracing your traumas and experiences as vital components of healing and personal growth.
