It's been weeks since I wrote that post about my mother not coming to see the opera my son-in-law wrote for me in Europe. I had offered to buy her a business class ticket with anti-anxiety medication, but never got a response. Reflecting on this made me think about other issues with my family. In our family, it's become expected that I don't share my feelings with others.
I'm still angry and sad about it, but I'm now choosing to let go of those feelings and find peace.
I've come to realize that family is not just about who birthed who, it's about who celebrates who. I encourage you to find your people who will see and celebrate you for who you are.
