In this inaugural episode of Mark's podcast, he delves into his advocacy work focused on dignity, justice, human rights, and homelessness. He emphasizes that his efforts are solely supported by donations, with no government funding involved. Mark discusses the nature of his work, the formation of the Coalition for Justice and Human Rights, and their dedication to meaningful advocacy.

We’ll talk about what a typical day for Mark is like and what his day was like on the day we recorded this episode, including working with a Mom who had her children apprehended by Child Welfare due to sexual violence by her ex, He also spent time that day helping a lady try to get Income Support after she lost her job due to an injury.

Throughout the episode, Mark emphasizes the importance of dignity and human rights, sharing stories of individuals he has helped, including a mother dealing with child welfare issues and a woman seeking income support after losing her job due to injury. He criticizes the Child Welfare System and Edmonton City Council for their handling of homeless encampments and expresses disappointment in their lack of empathy.

Mark also touches on the challenges faced by vulnerable individuals, such as a pregnant teenager dealing with stigma and isolation. He stresses the need for understanding and support in such situations, regardless of the severity of the circumstances.

Mark uses an analogy to make the point that whether a family is dealing with a family member who has been charged with murder or another family dealing with a child who stole a chocolate bar, the reaction is the same. The parents are feeling inconsolable, anxious, and hopeless in the face of their child's potentially life-changing criminal charges. As he puts it, whether you’re drowning in 2 feet of water or 50, you’re still drowning.

Additionally, Mark discusses the various forms of donations people can offer, including essential items and financial support, and promotes an upcoming fundraiser Gala dinner. He concludes by directing listeners to his social media channels, newsletter, and Patreon to further support his work.
