What CNY Needs to Meet Its Housing Demands

Talk CNY: Season 1, Episode 10 - Ryan Benz
Central New York is growing, and we need more housing to meet demand. To accommodate this region's growth, 2,500 housing units will need to be built each year over the next two decades. Just 808 units were permitted in 2021. The risks are high if the community doesn't act, and we can look at what has happened in other communities when housing demand drove the market above what the average person could afford.
On this episode of Talk CNY, presented by NBT Bank, we are joined by a Syracuse-based real estate developer, restaurateur and investor, Ryan Benz, who will give us an inside look at some of the development projects he has in the works that will help us meet this increasing need.
As the owner of popular restaurants Oh My Darling and The Fitz, along with the new Parthenon Bookstore, Benz splits his time between his retail offerings and his development company, Redev CNY. His company is currently in development on over $400 million in projects, including the redevelopment of the former Penfield Manufacturing Building, the redevelopment of the former Shoppingtown Mall into District East, and several others.
