TCN Mornings Episode 250 - Transcript for Tuesday, October 19, 2021

Hey kids, welcome into your Tuesday, the 19th day of October, AND this is episode number 250 for TCN Mornings, so how about that?! Today is also National Kentucky Day! Yeah! It seems that October 19th, is when we recognize Kentucky for becoming the 15th state in the United States. (But, actually, Kentucky became a state on June 1st, 1792...so why is October 19th the day we recognize and celebrate that? Well, your guess is as good as mine. Maybe it’s because June 1st had already been taken for National Go Barefoot Day? Mhm, that’s a thing, and come June 1st, WE will be celebrating that!!) Anyway, Kentucky is known as the Bluegrass State, and also home to the Kentucky Derby, and Fort Knox. It’s also the birthplace of one the nation’s most beloved presidents. So, happy National Kentucky Day!

Okay! Let’s get going with this Tuesday edition of TCN Mornings.

So, have you ever been in a situation where somebody was just relentless in trying to make your life miserable? Well, don’t feel alone. There are indeed those people out there who seem to have nothing better to do than to torment someone else. A kid named Anthony was the recipient of his own daily torment in the story coming up. He tried to remain quiet about it, but one day, he just couldn’t. The story is called “Thumper Gets Stopped!” And it starts right now:

Thumper Gets Stopped.

And there it is! So, have you ever let someone hurt you repeatedly without reporting it to an adult? If you have, why? And maybe this is a good time to talking about “reporting.” You know, nobody wants to be a tattle-tale or a snitch, or whatever you want to call it. But that’s a lot different from “REPORTING.” Tattling is like when you “tell on” somebody for ... what ...chewing gum when they’re not supposed to ... or something like that. And that’s something you really never want to do. Because, well, it’s not your business, and that’s just their own character flaw that they need to deal with. BUT...when someone is causing HARM to someone else, or damaging someone’s property, TELLING an adult about it is not tattling. That’s reporting. And when any of us see this happening...including ME, it is actually our responsibility to tell someone in authority. We can do it quietly of course, and a good place to start is by telling your parents, or your teacher.

And speaking of telling your parents, be sure to tell your parents...tell your friends...tell your friend’s parents to simply goto TCNMornings.com. That’s all you need. TCNMORNINGS.com. And listen to a new segment every morning on the way to school in the car, or at home. TCNMornings.com. Also, if you don’t already have it, you can download the TCN Mornings Mobile App! It’s available

for both Apple and Android. All you have to do is search TCN Mornings in Google Play or the App Store. ALSO, TCN Mornings is available anywhere and EVERYWHERE podcasts are available. So, get yours today! It’s totally free!

Straight ahead: A quote from My old Irish Pappy, The Question of the day, AND, a Reflection of YOUR Future. It’s all coming up right here on this Tuesday edition of TCN Mornings.

Alrighty then...My Old Irish Pappy. A man just full of wisdom about life and how to live it better. Let’s see what he has for us today:

Oh yes, absolutely! ALWAYS pay what you owe! And if you can’t, ALWAYS communicate about it and make arrangements to pay. And then KEEP the arrangements you made. ALWAYS...no exceptions!

Okay, Now... It's time for the QUESTION OF THE DAY! You remember at the beginning when we were talking about this being National Kentucky Day, I said (among other things about Kentucky) that Kentucky is the birthplace of one of our most beloved Presidents. So, here’s the question. Which beloved President was born in Kentucky?

If you know, email your answer to MYANSWER@TCNmornings.com. Tell us your first name, your city and state, and of course, your answer, and the first correct answer will be featured right here TOMORROW. That email address again is MYANSWER@TCNmornings.com.

Well. Now about yesterday’s Question of the Day: You remember that yesterday we talked about Chocolate Cupcakes (you know, because it was National Chocolate Cupcake Day!) And we also talked about cookies, because they were mentioned in the story. So, your question was (knowing that Cupcakes and cookies both have BASICALLY the same ingredients, and are both baked pretty much the same way....what is the difference between the way cupcakes are made and the way cookies are made?

And it was Emma from Huntersville, North Carolina who was the first to correctly answer that while “cakes and cookies use pretty much the same ingredients, and there are all kinds of recipes. Cake batter” she says, “has more liquid, whether it’s milk or water, or eggs, or oil than cookie dough has. Cake batter may have more leavening agents, too, like baking powder or baking soda. Cake batter can be poured into a cake pan or a cupcake pan, but cookie dough is much thicker (because it has less liquid) and it can be shaped into cookies. Cakes and cookies both usually bake at about 350 degrees.” Well, Emma, it sounds like you should be wearing a chef’s hat! And thank you for your answer!!

Okay...as usual, one more quick segment ahead, but as for me, I will see you tomorrow for the Wednesday edition of TCN Mornings here on The Character Network.

Reflection:

Closer.

Dear Parents,

After years of development, trial, and revision, we are so excited to now share with you the most effective version yet of our Proactive Bully Prevention Program that has proven to "change the culture" at hundreds of campuses across America in profound ways. Research has shown the TCN Method™ to be the single most effective school based Violence and Bully Prevention Intervention of its entire genre. We have hundreds of testimonials from educators describing the results they have gotten, and you can view many of these at www.TheCharacterNetwork.org/Testimonials

This program, The Beginning of a Famous Herois used in conjunction with a companion program called Bully Alert!in schools played over the intercom during morning announcements twice or more each school week, and backed up by a common culture which reinforces the principles taught, at every turn, and incorporates the phrases of the academic language during any teachable moment.

These two sets of stories work together to convey a common academic language which says, “A bully is a person who hurts others on purpose (even if it’s just hurting their feelings) but a HERO is a person who HELPS others. So CHOOSE to be a HERO by HELPING instead of a bully by hurting.”

They also promote the concept of POSITIVE PERSONAL VISION, helping each student to realistically visualize his or her own "Future Self," and in doing so help relate consequences of actions and attitudes today (good or bad) to that future self.

It is the spaced repetition of these principles that makes the program effective. It is the 100% turn-key presentation that makes it easy!

This program takes VIRTUALLY NO TIME (only 4 minutes a week!) away from classroom instruction. But it also provides a common language across the entire campus when teachable moments occur!

The TCN Method has been extraordinarily successful in the past, in almost a thousand schools all across America, from California to New York, with a special concentration all over Texas, where The Character Network is based, and has been used to the benefit of well over a million students across the past two decades.

Then Covid struck, with the majority of schools ceasing in classroom instruction altogether for the majority of the previous school year, and after years of successful growth, we found ourselves in the very difficult situation of having to rebuild almost from scratch. So we started a morning podcast to help make the principles and teachings of TCN available to kids to have at home… but we need help from parents like you to get the word out, and also to help us gather financial support to once again make the method available again to not just the schools we lost due to Covid, but to every school and every child who could benefit and needs this going forward.

We invite you to become a coworker with us on our mission. Please start by visiting us at www.Patreon.com/theCharacterNetwork and considering becoming a sponsor for this work, and then dropping us a line at info@thecharacternetwork.org so we can learn more about you. Thank you so much!
