According to Buddhist principles, the “monkey mind” is a term that refers to being unsettled, restless, or confused. – Psychology Today
Buddha described the human mind as being filled with drunken monkeys, jumping around, screeching, chattering, carrying on endlessly. – HuffPo
No doubt you’ve encountered the monkey mind when:
- You’ve encountered financial stresses
- You’re experiencing inconvenient or debilitating illness
- You’re unhappy with your body/physical appearance
- You had an embarrassing mishap in bed
- Any other circumstance where you feel out of control or feel unsafe
- The monkeys can be very loud, and it can be easy to get absorbed in their three ring circus.
But you certainly don’t want monkeys behind the wheel of your car driving your life.
That’s why today, in part 2 of our 3 part series on Mindfulness for Men, we’ve brought back The Great Man Within’s resident mindfulness teacher – Mark Melvin – to help us identify and tame the monkey mind.
WHO IS MARK MELVIN?
- For 12 years Mark has been a corporate attorney by trade and a yoga, meditation and breathwork instructor at heart
- He’s also a Masters student in Clinical Mental Health Studies
- He found yoga and meditation after he grew tired of binge drinking, isolating and feeling uncomfortable in intimate relationships
- Mark is one of the anchors in the Great Man Mastermind, and he’s our resident expert when it comes to all things mindfulness
IN THIS EPISODE
- What is the monkey mind and how you developed it
- 5 ways the monkey mind may show up in your life
