61. Human(Kind)

I love this conversation with Ashlee Eiland. I love Ashlee. You will, too.
Please listen to a piece of her story here, and then also read her book, "Human(Kind): How Reclaiming Human Worth and Embracing Radical Kindness Will Bring Us Back Together." Her memoir in short essays recounts events in her life that shaped her view of herself, of God and the world around her. Finding yourself in the midst of so many conflicting messages can be a difficult task, especially when so many people have opinions and assumptions about how you 'should be.' Please read this book and see your own story intermingled with hers. It's an invitation to sort out what to take with you and what to leave behind from your own story, and to find human kindness as the antidote to so much of what ails us personally, and as a society.
Please read this book, and pass it on to your family and friends. It is available from Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Human-Kind-Reclaiming-Embracing-Kindness-ebook/dp/B07TZCJS7W/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=human+%28kind%29&qid=1590163102&sr=8-1
(This podcast was recorded prior to the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the subsequent protests. Therefore, there are no mentions of this event in our conversation.)

oneLife Maps is, at its core, interested in helping people to recognize and respond to God in their stories. The seven lies Darrell talks about invitations to consider how a few shifts in perspective on how we think about God and faith effect our ways of being in the world. You don't have to agree with everything he says to appreciate the deep thinking that has led Darrell and others to a healthy spirituality that prioritizes love as its highest value.
If you have engaged in 'Listen to My Life: Maps for Recognizing and Responding to God in My Story' visual life mapping, you'll see that this conversation relates directly to the bottom line on the 'My Life Story' map, where you are asked to consider how you have noticed God, or viewed who God is over the course of your life. This conversation is a great way to help you sort out what stories you have been handed about who you are and who God is -- and prayerfully decide what to take with you, and what to leave behind.
