This Week’s Focus: Flip the Script
Sometimes, when we are experiencing a not-so-great situation, it is really challenging to lift out of it by ourselves. We feel awful and it is difficult for us to see the light at the end of the tunnel. What if we had a way to turn an awful situation into a better one? There’s not a magic wand to fix these situations. It often takes help from someone else. Below is a four step process that you can use to help lift others out of their not-so-great situations.
- Step 1: Someone shares with you a not-so-great situation
- Step 2: You acknowledge that the situation is indeed awful
- Step 3: Think about how to turn the situation into a better one
- Step 4: Say how you would make the situation better to the person.
There’s a link to a lesson associated with this in the episode notes for students as there really is not a magic wand that can substitute for practice. As always when becoming an expert with solving problems, it takes practice.
