theforcedpivot Podcast welcomes Athan Lindsay. Lindsay joins the show to share his stories and pivot of life that led him from Eastern Winston-Salem, North Carolina to where he is today. He shares how tough decisions must be made, even at a young age, that will oftentimes determine your outcome in life.
Lindsay has an extensive career in the field of philanthropy that has included serving in various programmatic roles for various foundations and philanthropic initiatives. With more than two decades of experience working within the field of philanthropy and through his personal philanthropy, he has gained an understanding and appreciation for how philanthropy can be utilized as an effective tool for building and transforming communities. Over the years, Lindsay has been a leading voice in the field of philanthropy promoting broader engagement of diverse audiences of donors and communities. He is a passionate advocate to make philanthropy accessible to everyone. Lindsay is a distinguished professional recognized for his work organizing giving circles, providing technical assistance to foundations and individual donors, and author of several articles on democratizing philanthropy. As Director of Community Philanthropy, he leads the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro Expanding Community Giving Initiative to expand and diversify its donor base in addition to providing donor services to the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro’s other donors. Under his leadership, the Community Foundation of Greater Greensboro has experienced successful donor engagement with donors of color that have generated 25 newly philanthropic funds totaling over $2 million funds raised. He has also led the efforts to establish the Black Investments in Greensboro (BIG) Equity Fund, the foundation's first permanent endowment established by Black donors to make community investments that elevate and prioritize equity for Greensboro’s Black Community.
Lindsay currently resides in Elon, North Carolina with his wife, Cori. They are the proud parents of their son, Langston Joseph George Lindsay. Lindsay is a native of Winston-Salem, NC. Athan graduated from Davidson College in 1993 with a B.A. in History. His work experience has included service with the Rural Advancement Foundation International (RAFI), Cameron Foundation, National Rural Funders Collaborative, Warner Foundation, and Mary Reynolds Babcock Foundation. Mr. Lindsay is a 2000 Fellow of the Southeastern Council of Foundations Hull Leadership and the recipient of the Association of Black Foundation Executive’s (ABFE) 2006 Emerging Leader in Philanthropy Award. He has been featured in and written articles for various national publications and has also made many presentations at conferences across the nation.
