In this episode of Off the Boards, host and lead writer Christian Fowler, GT247 founder Brooks Hansen and GT247 digital content producer Kenny Stubblefield break down Memphis' hire of former NBA All-Star Rasheed Wallace.

Throughout the episode, Fowler, Hansen and Stubblefield explain what the Wallace hire means for Memphis on the court and for recruiting. Wallace has ties to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and North Carolina among other recruiting hotbeds.

Following his 16-year career as a player, Wallace was hired as an assistant coach for the Detroit Pistons during the 2013-2014 season. Despite signing a two-year contract in Detroit, Wallace wasn't retained after Stan Van Gundy was hired.

After his one-year stint with the Pistons, Memphis' newest assistant coach took a break from coaching. In 2019, Wallace was hired to be the head coach of the boy's varsity basketball team at Jordan High School in Durham, North Carolina.

In early June of this year, NC Good Better Best Academy named Wallace as the next head coach of their basketball program. Despite getting a second head coaching opportunity at the high school level, Wallace has made the decision to accept his first collegiate coaching job at Memphis.
