What sorrow could come with Christmas? Amidst the celebration of God taking on flesh in the person of Jesus Christ, there is a reality that we all deal with: life doesn't stop. For some, there is extra pain during the holiday season because of a loss experienced in the past year; for others, that may come later once the adrenaline of the Christmas season has passed.
We see in Matthew that this reality exists even at the birth of Christ. Christ has come, but that does not mean sin and evil in the world cease to exist. Herod does not like the idea of a king invading his space and will go to evil extremes to prevent his power from being challenged.
Our joy as Christians is not that everything in our lives will be perfect but that Christ has promised to be with us through it all!
