This week on #TubtaNabadda, we bring you UN Women’s Syed Sadiq and Khadija Abdikadir Ali from the Somali Women Development Centre (SWDC) in Baidoa to hear from them on one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world: violence against women and girls. Women and girls in Somalia suffer various forms of violence, such as female genital mutilation, domestic violence and economic violence. There is no excuse for violence against women and girls, and to end it, everyone has to be involved – government, justice authorities, civil society, educational institutions, religious figures and communities. Relevant laws need to be created and implemented, and services for survivors must be in place and easily accessible; finally, there must be accountability for crimes.
