Episode 24: Ultimate Album Knock Out Challenge v1- "One For All" vs. "People's Instinctive Travels"
Manage episode 303988777 series 2979287
There are always arguments about who has the greatest hip-hop albums of all time. The Inasoulbianz Crew with DJ Earl-E, MC Prose, and Yedr RocSki put the music to the test on the Ultimate Album Knock Out Challenge. Each album is selected for its relevance, production value, artist dynamic, and lyrical content, and is pitted against a similar album in a 10 round, song for song format. The winner of the most rounds wins the crown for the week, with feedback from our live chat listeners and special guests. This week in studio we have veteran DJ Doc Smoov, a fellow Fleet DJ recently relocated to Los Angeles from Louisville, KY, who lived through the golden era as a DJ spinning vinyl.
A Tribe Called Quest's "People's Instinctive Travels and Paths of Rhythm," and Brand Nubian's "One For All" both dropped in 1990 to critical acclaim and both albums boast a number of classic hip-hop songs. Both albums were noted for their creative sampling and conscious lyrics, with the bulk of the work featuring psuedo-frontmen in Q-Tip and Grand Puba respectively. "Bonita Applebaum," "Slow Down, " Can I Kick It," and ""Step to the Rear" are all heavyweight classics, but which album has more dope tracks to win?
Tune in to hear which songs we put head to head, and listen to see which album has the strength to go 10 rounds!
