104. Jess Opon - From Pro Dancer to Editor @ Binging With Babish

Well, Now What?!

I am joined by Jessica Opon. Jess has been working in post production for several years now. Starting out as an assistant editor for Defy Media in LA, she worked her way up to being an editor at Vice Media in New York, where she was a piece of the group of “Charlottesville: Race and Terror”, which won an Emmy. She also became an integral part of the production process as a shooter and producer.

Now working as a freelancer, her main focus is editing, but brings her knowledge of producing and shooting to her work. She is an editor for the incredible cooking channel, Binging with Babish, starring Andrew Rae, her partner.

​She was also a fellow dancer, and you can tell that her background as a professional dancer becomes immediately apparent in the delicate, expertly choreographed stories she weaves behind both the camera and the editing desk.

Absolutely loved chatting with Jess. She's such a wise and beautiful person. We talked about the dance world and not so great relationships with food and image, switching industries and going into production and editing, working on YouTube, how editing and dance is more connected than you might think, advice she has for going into the production/entertainment industry, learning to trust yourself, and end with some fun rapid fires like some of the projects she's most proud of!
