Welcome to Wellthy Living conversations EP.58
With so many people succumbing to anxiety and fear at the moment, many are feeling hopeless and finding it hard to feel optimistic. But we all know we need to focus on hope and optimism for the future wellbeing of ourselves, the younger generations and the planet.
So to promote solutions that focus on fun, make sense of life and taming our toxic load so we can master our mind and body and create a culture of wellness, I’m joined by Special Guest, Dr Marc Cohen.
Dr Marc is a medical doctor, university professor, author, poet, entrepreneur, wellness trailblazer and perpetual student.
In this episode Marc shares his passion for holistic medicine and wellness and how he went from studying western medicine to now focus more on integrative medicine and health promotion.
Marc dives into his passion topic- 'water' and why he thinks its the solution to realising worldwide wellness. We discussed types of water, science of water, impacts of toxins in our water and impacts of bathing in toxic water.
We went on to discuss simple ways to boost our immune system and reduce anxiety, where Marc shares his "10 hacks to relax" - helping your body go from sympathetic-dominant ‘fight and flight’ mode, to parasympathetic-dominant ‘rest and digest’ mode. These actions can be done anywhere, or anytime you feel anxious, scared, upset or in pain and they will help you relax your body and calm your mind.
The 10 Hacks to Relax are:
1.Touch all your fingers
2.Wiggle your toes
3.Soften your stomach
4.Breathe through your nose
5.Sigh
6.Smile
7.Swallow
8.Sing
9.Flutter your eyelids
10.Focus within
Marc then proceeded to share talk about another passion of his that seems to be gaining popularity and proving to have both physiological and psychological benefits -
A practice where instead of trying to get rid of stress you make it your friend - 'Extreme wellness'.
He shared what extreme wellness is and how it helps to build resilience and retrain your nervous system. He shared a fun daily practice that he calls "the hockey pokey shower dance' to help people begin their journey into extreme wellness.
Throughout the episode Dr Marc shared additional info and tips to reduce anxiety and thrive in your life.
Since wellness can be just as contagious as illness, maybe together we can contribute to wellness pandemic that will help us become positively well and realise worldwide wellness.
