Tina Sturdevant (Class of 2009) is the Talent Development Director at The Athletic, where she's part of a talent team that contributes to every aspect of the talent process for 400+ global newsroom employees, including external pipeline and recruiting, employee development and internal culture.
Tina reflects on the dual career paths she was considering at SDSU, the impact of interning in the Sports Information Department, how the recession closed one door but a return home opened a different door with the Oakland A's, then how a Craigslist ad led to her job at Bleacher Report, before her current job at The Athletic.
With practical wisdom attained from both sides of the hiring process, Tina reflects on being an applicant at huge job fairs and now attending them as a recruiter. She explains how The Athletic seeks out candidates, the internal culture they try to foster, and making herself available to all employees to ensure that nobody is suffering in silence.
