S3E13 - "Dr. Fever and Mr. Tide PT01"
Manage episode 386267893 series 2799286
WELCOME BACK!!
Johnny needs money...so what else is new? Big difference today, Johnny's picked up a side gig! He's been tapped to host a new Teen Dance show in the Cincinnati market!! (Hold on...Johnny FEVER? Dance Party?) Yeah, this one looked questionable from the start!!
Johnny may have been persuaded by the pretty face hiding a shark of a producer named Avis. Avis lured Johnny in with too much Champagne and too few clothes. He signed a fairly ironclad contract. It wasn't until WAY too late he discovered this whole "dance" scene had nothing to do with Rock-n-Roll. It was all about the hated DISCO!!
Johnny's back is to the wall. If he doesn't get his sequined booty on the "Gotta Dance" stage he will be sued back to the Stone Age. Have no fear, the Ripper is here!! Johnny creates an "alter-ego" he calls "Rip Tide." Rip saves the day and becomes a HIT in Cincinnati. The kids can't get enough of the sad-eyed, middle-aged man in the clown suit who plays the disco hits!!
The original DF&MT was a full hour the night it premiered. It was broken into two half hours for syndication. In the interest of our sanity, and to keep you from slogging through a two-hour podcast, we're breaking it down, too. This is PART ONE! Got your skates laced up? Spandex on? It sounds like you Gotta Dance!!!...er, I mean you Gotta Push PLAY!!
WATCH ALONG DETAILS...
[Want to watch along with us? It's a blast!! We highly recommend the 'Shout Factory' boxed DVD set of the entire WKRP series. For reasons you'll have to listen to in the "Prolog" episode, all streaming versions of the original "WKRP in Cincinnati" have had the original music cues removed. Generic music beds and stings were used in place of the original music for the syndicated version of the series. 'Shout Factory' has been able to restore an estimated 85% of all WKRP music cues to the original "as-aired" content for their DVD release. They've also restored scenes that had been cut to shorten episodes for syndication. The original eps ran 25 minutes. The syndication eps were shortened to 22 minutes. Over 88 episodes that's more than four hours of lost content, including the performance by "Detective" at the end of "Hoodlum Rock." Get the COMPLETE series...get the Shout Factory DVDs. The Shout Factory complete series box has a release date of 2014. All individual seasons of Shout Factory disks were released starting in 2015.]
