Today, we are joined by Derek Fitzgerald. He is the founder of the Recycled Man Foundation, endurance athlete, and speaker. Derek is a survivor of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, heart failure, and a heart transplant. After receiving his lifesaving transplant in 2011, Derek entered the world of endurance sports and became dedicated to helping others going through their own healthcare journeys.

He founded the Recycled Man Foundation, a non-profit organization created to improve the quality of life with those affected by significant health challenges. Derek has upheld his life's mission to honor his donor’s gift. He has competed in over 90 endurance events and is the only known cancer survivor and heart transplant recipient to complete a full iron distance race in the allotted time. When he's not training or speaking, he can be found spending plenty of time with his family.

In this episode, we talk about life, we talk about what it was like to go through heart failure, a journey we share, and we get into one of his main missions: to honor his donor’s life to live a life full of life, and to make every single day count!
