James Geering, a native of Bath, England, initially aspired to be a firefighter but was deterred by being informed of his color blindness during his school years. He pursued various jobs, including lifeguard and stuntman, until he moved to the US, where he successfully challenged the fire service entrance medical and spent 14 years as a firefighter/paramedic. Witnessing the toll of work-related physical and mental health issues on his colleagues, he launched the free podcast Behind the Shield in 2016, connecting first responders, military personnel, and civilians with experts in wellness. The show has garnered over 5 million international downloads and features 800+ diverse guests. In 2020, James published his first book, One More Light: Life, Death, and Humanity, blending personal career anecdotes with insights from podcast guests, and he is currently working on his debut fiction novel.
