Ep. 107: Anita Moorjani - Sensitive is the New Strong
Manage episode 293854410 series 2537642
On today’s episode, I welcome New York Times best-selling author and international speaker, Anita Moorjani. I have been following Anita’s amazing work for years, starting with her first book, Dying to Be Me which tells the story of her amazing near death experience when she had a terminal cancer diagnosis and her incredible road to recovery!
We start the conversation from the very beginning and her childhood and talk about her very unique experiences living, as she calls it, between three worlds and existing in three different languages. As well as the early signs of being an empath and developing a very strong inner world and seeing more than others around her.
Anita explains that she didn’t always see being sensitive or shy as positive traits, particularly because of the reaction of those around her and the stories her family told. She felt different, outcast, weird. Instead of special and unique. It wasn’t until her near death experience that she realized how special and unique her life was and how everything happened for a reason - nothing was a punishment, it all happened FOR her. She realized that she was the perfect person to bridge religious and cultural differences.
We talk about the very hard loss of her friend to cancer as well as her own cancer diagnosis. Anita believes she needed that experience and diagnosis to finally start taking care of herself and stop being, as she puts it, a people-pleasing doormat. It was after that near death experience that she started to step into herself and and emodied who she truly is.
“Don’t be afraid to take care of yourself first because your light is needed in this world.”~ Anita Moorjani
Anita speaks about her new book called Sensitive is the New Strong and I had to ask her how she embodies this confidence and radiance now. She says it is because she finally realized that her sensitivity and empathy for other is a super power. Not something to feel ashamed of. She developed boundaries instead of putting everyone else first.
She is committed to helping others learn what she has learned, without having to have a near death experience. She believes it’s time for empaths to take leadership roles. The world needs your voice. It’s time to stop hiding so we can change the world.
She now sees that her purpose is to take care of herself and everything else is secondary from there.
I hope that you will listen as Anita talks about how to interrupt the self-sacrificing behavior so many of us can find ourselves in sometimes. One of the key ways she suggests is to connect to something bigger than yourself - the universe, God, Source, whatever you call it. And also connect with yourself. Anita wants everyone to not be afraid to take care of yourself first because your light is needed in this world.
I’d love to know what you think. Please share it with your friends and family, and be sure to tag me if you share it on social media so that I can say thank you. I’m @christinastars on Instagram and @ChristinaRasmussen2014 on Facebook.
