Solocast - Grandmother/Mahdar Bozorg & The Later Years of the Human Experience
Manage episode 345378989 series 3399949
A short solocast paying digital homage to her,
My grandmother Mahin 'Shahin' Keysar , is nearing passing.
A beautiful transition, the most natural completion of the human life experience.
Her imminent passing is not without challenge. Her imminent passing, death, is also a celebration of her life, too.
Her life reminded me of how we treat those in the later years of life through many visits to the old age homes where she lived in.
Most curiously, easing their life experience is particularly effective by having points of reference from home.
She moved from Iran here in the 80s and though she came to this Beautiful country, points of reference trickled away. Home, environment, people, restaurants, streets, the simplicities.
Just moving from home to a retirement home can be a massive shift with loss of sense of home.
It can be challenging for them, and society can, rather than set them aside, treat as valuable members of the community, invite their transition to the 'golden years' to be one where their autonomy, and wisdom is shared, and gratitude given.
We, you, me, will be there, ourselves, one day.
Consider reading Atul Gawande - Being Mortal for a deeper dive into this.
We Love You Shahin Joon.❤️
Was it difficult for you to mourn the passing of your grandparent?
