Originally from the Chicago area, Cookie relocated to Colorado in 1997 with her ex-husband and their three children after his military retirement. While she has called Aurora her primary home, her career has taken her across the Denver Metro area, including Littleton, before returning to Aurora. Cookie's journey began with her service in the US Army, where she cultivated a foundation of discipline and leadership. After her service, she supported her then-husband's military career while raising their three children. Driven by a passion for making a difference, Cookie earned a Bachelor's degree and transitioned into a career as an elementary school teacher. She dedicated several years to teaching special education students in a Title I school within Aurora Public Schools, exemplifying her commitment to education and child development. Cookie’s career later shifted to the corporate sector, where she thrived in recruiting and human resources for over a decade. However, a pivotal moment came when she faced termination from her job, marking the beginning of a new chapter. Confronting PTSD, addiction, and disabilities, Cookie's resilience and strength guided her through these challenges. Today, Cookie uses her experiences to raise awareness about PTSD and MST, particularly among women, veterans, and first responders. Her journey from adversity to empowerment highlights her courage and adaptability, making her a compassionate and influential figure in her community.
