Dr. Valerie Cacho is here to discuss how to get a better night’s sleep. As we get older, we have less REM and less deep sleep and more light sleep. We need all 4 stages of sleep and if you are not sleeping well, your mood can be affected. She recommends reserving the last hour of your day for yourself to slow your brain waves so you can sleep better. She suggests slowing your breath, meditation, taking a bath, listening to music, or journaling for better sleep. One practice that she discusses is using your five senses. Think of somewhere you want to be, somewhere where you are at rest, and what are five things you are seeing, four things you are feeling, three things you are hearing, two things you smell and one thing you can taste.

Her interests and expertise include diagnosing and treating medical sleep disorders, women's sleep concerns, mind-body approaches to insomnia, self-compassion training, clinical hypnotherapy, and promoting sleep health and wellness.
